Background

The collection of tenant billing data typically involves monthly manual meter readings, performed either by on-site personnel or third-party vendors. This process involves visiting each meter, recording the consumption, and manually transferring the information into a spreadsheet, which can be time-consuming, taking an entire day or more depending on the number of meters.

 
 
 

 
 

Usability Study

To gather insights on the meter reading feature, I conducted user testing with a few on-site operators. During the tests, I observed their experience using the Enertiv App and recorded their feedback. Based on the findings, I made improvements to enhance the functionality.

User Efficiency Improvement

In response to user feedback, several updates were made to the app, including:

  1. The integration of QR codes for meter readings, enabling users to quickly access a meter read by scanning the code, eliminating the need to manually enter the meter serial number.

  2. The incorporation of computer vision technology, allowing users to easily capture meter readings through a photo, improving the accuracy of the readings.

  3. The introduction of an "Up Next" screen, which provides a clear view of the meters on the same floor or the next floor, and keeps the user focused on their next task.

With the implementation of the Enertiv App, our users have achieved a significant reduction in time spent on meter readings. A 25-story building, which previously took 12 hours to complete through manual processes, can now be done in just 3 hours, demonstrating the efficiency and effectiveness of the Enertiv App.
